The situation

IFTA isn’t hard. It’s just relentless.

Every quarter, the same scramble: pull the miles, sort the fuel receipts, match them state by state, look up rates that changed again, and file before the deadline — or eat a penalty and a possible audit.

A pile of receipts isn’t a record.

Auditors want miles by jurisdiction tied to fuel by jurisdiction, reconciled, for up to four years. A glovebox of crumpled receipts and a guessed mileage split is exactly what triggers an assessment.

The rates move. The math doesn’t forgive.

Tax rates change quarterly across 48 jurisdictions. One stale rate or one mile counted in the wrong state and your return is wrong — and you won’t know until a notice arrives.

Miss a deadline, pay twice.

Late IFTA filings stack penalties and interest, and repeated lateness puts your license at risk. The work is small — the cost of forgetting it isn’t.

How it works

Connect. Reconcile. File.

Bring in miles and fuel however you have them, X3 builds the return, and you file it yourself or let us handle it.

01

Bring in your miles

Connect your ELD or GPS for automatic trip data, or upload a trip sheet or odometer log. X3 splits every trip into miles by jurisdiction — no manual state-line math.

02

Drop in your fuel

Snap fuel receipts or import a fuel-card export. X3 reads each purchase, assigns it to the right jurisdiction, and flags anything missing before it can hurt your return.

03

X3 builds the return

We reconcile miles against gallons, apply the current rate for every jurisdiction, compute net tax or credit, and run an audit-style check for MPG and missing-mile red flags — before anything is filed.

04

File it — or we do

Download a clean, file-ready return for your base jurisdiction, or put it on Autopilot and we prepare and file every quarter and just send you the confirmation.

Pricing

File one quarter. Or never think about it again.

Start with a single quarter. Move to Autopilot whenever you’re done doing it yourself.

Bring your data

However you track miles, we’ll take it.

Connect your telematics provider for hands-off trip data, or upload what you already keep. No ELD? A trip sheet or odometer log works fine — X3 does the jurisdiction split either way.

  • ELD / GPS sync — Motive, Samsara, Geotab and others; trips import automatically.
  • CSV / trip sheet upload — bulk-import miles and fuel from a spreadsheet.
  • Fuel-card import — pull purchases straight from your fuel-card export.

Questions

Straight answers.

Do I need an ELD to use this?

No. An ELD or GPS makes it automatic, but a trip sheet, odometer log, or CSV works fine. X3 does the jurisdiction mileage split either way.

Does X3 pay my taxes?

The tax owed goes to your base jurisdiction and is yours to pay. X3 prepares the return, runs the audit check, and — on Autopilot — files it. The service fee is separate from the tax.

What if I get audited?

Autopilot keeps a four-year archive of your miles, fuel, and filed returns, organized exactly how an auditor asks for it — so a notice is a download, not a fire drill.

Can I file my own base state?

Yes. On the per-quarter plan you get a clean, file-ready return to submit to your base jurisdiction yourself. On Autopilot we submit it for you.
